Homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

Share:
Give your pet some homemade love with simple DIY dog treats. Pumpkin is a great source of fibre, zinc and vitamins, which can help your dog’s digestive health, skin and coat. Just be sure that you’re getting pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling which can be full of additives. As with all treats, enjoy in moderation! Ready to try them out?

Here’s what you’ll need:
Biscuit Ingredients:
Ingredients
  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • ¾ - 1 cup of pumpkin puree
  • ¼ cup of coconut oil
  • Optional add-ins: oats, spinach, parsley

Icing Ingredients:
  • ½ cup of plain cream cheese
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons of pumpkin puree*
*Make sure you get pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling

Directions:
  1. Combine pumpkin puree and coconut oil and mix until smooth.
    Cookie dough with cookie cutter
  2. Pour the flour in little by little, mixing as you go. Continue until all the flour is incorporated. If the dough is too dry or crumbly, add a bit more pumpkin puree.
  3. Roll the dough into a ball, cover and chill in the refrigerator for 30 mins. This will make the dough easier to roll out.
  4. Flour a clean, flat surface to prevent the dough from sticking. Roll the dough out to ⅓ to ½ inch thickness, sprinkling more flour as needed.
  5. Cut out cookies with your chosen cookie cutter.
  6. Transfer the biscuits to a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 35-40 mins at 350 degrees.
  8. Remove and let cool completely.

For the icing:
Cookies with icing
  1. Add the cream cheese and pumpkin puree to a bowl and mix until combined. Add more pumpkin puree if you prefer a brighter colour.
  2. Spread the icing onto the cooled cookies using a knife or piping bag. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a Ziploc bag and cut off the corner.
  3. We recommend icing the biscuits fresh as your dog is ready to eat them. Store any unused icing or iced cookies in the refrigerator.
